CBOT wheat turns lower on Black Sea uncertainty

- Algeria's state grains agency OAIC bought around 540,000 to 720,000 metric tons of milling wheat in an international tender that closed on Wednesday, European traders said.
- The U.S. Department of Agriculture reported 2026-27 U.S. wheat export sales were 296,400 metric tons in the week that ended on August 30. Analysts expected 250,000 to 450,000 metric tons.
Wheat futures turn lower amid Black Sea disruption
CHICAGO, Aug. 6 (Reuters) - Chicago Board of Trade wheat futures turned lower on Thursday as traders shed positions in technical moves amid continued uncertainty over global supplies and Black Sea export disruptions, market analysts said.
- CBOT September soft red winter wheat WU26 ended 11 cents lower at $6.31-1/4 per bushel.
- K.C. September hard red winter wheat KWU26 settled down 13-3/4 cents at $6.99-3/4 a bushel, and Minneapolis September spring wheat MWEU26 fell 12-1/2 cents at $6.71 a bushel.
Black Sea attacks and supply outlook weigh on trade
- A Russian attack damaged a foreign-flagged ship loaded with wheat in Ukraine's Black Sea area, killing one crew member and causing a fire, an Odesa regional governor said.
- A surge in attacks on ships, ports and export terminals in the Black Sea is hampering grain shipments, and Ukraine's agriculture minister said alternative export routes would not fully compensate for lost export capability until at least the end of August.
- However, expectations of large harvests in Russia and Ukraine, as well as importing countries like Morocco and Turkey, have tempered concern about supply.
