1. Record Total Loss Frequency

In CCC’s 2026 Crash Course Report, total loss frequency across all auto claims reached 23.1%, marking a new industry high driven by older vehicle retirements and rising repair costs that push more vehicles beyond economic repair thresholds.

2. Rising Bodily Injury Severity Trends

Average paid bodily injury claim severity climbed 10.3% year-over-year and 32% over four years, reflecting higher medical, legal and settlement expenses that may intensify underwriting challenges for insurers and demand more robust analytics services from CCC.

3. Aging Vehicle Fleet and Repair Complexity

The U.S. auto fleet has 12 million fewer vehicles six years old or newer compared with 2020, while 28.3% of repairable estimates now require calibrations for advanced driver assistance systems, increasing repair complexity and potential service revenue for CCC’s calibration management tools.

4. Reporting Format Changes

CCC will transition its Crash Course report from quarterly to an annual flagship format, complemented by a monthly Trends Report, aiming to provide deeper long-term insights while maintaining ongoing industry monitoring and client engagement through more frequent updates.
