Celanese says Amsterdam court dismisses Shell, Repsol damage claims
CE•Amsterdam court rejects damages claims tied to ethylene purchases
Celanese Corp. said on Thursday an Amsterdam court dismissed in full a claim for damages filed by Shell Chemicals Europe, a subsidiary of Shell, linked to past ethylene purchases in northwestern Europe.
Shares of the company were up 2.2% in premarket trading.
The Amsterdam District Court also rejected a separate request from certain Repsol entities, represented by Stichting Ethylene Claims, for a declaration that Celanese and co-defendants were liable for damages, the company said.
The cases were follow-on actions linked to a 2020 settlement between the European Commission and several companies over past ethylene purchases in northwestern Europe.
Ethylene is a key petrochemical feedstock used to make plastics and other industrial products.
