Centrus Taps Fluor for Multi-Billion-Dollar Piketon Expansion, 12t HALEU

LEULEU

Centrus Energy’s subsidiary American Centrifuge Operating has engaged Fluor as EPC contractor for its multi-billion-dollar expansion of the Piketon, Ohio uranium enrichment plant. The project will produce LEU to satisfy a $2.3B backlog, add 12 metric tons of HALEU per year and follows a $900M DOE HALEU award.

1. EPC Partnership with Fluor

Centrus Energy’s subsidiary American Centrifuge Operating has signed a multi-year engineering, procurement and construction contract with Fluor to advance the expansion of its uranium enrichment facility in Piketon, Ohio. Fluor will lead design, supply chain management, site construction and commissioning of the new capacity.

2. Expansion Scope and Capacity Targets

The project is a multi-billion-dollar investment to ramp up low-enriched uranium production and clear a $2.3 billion commercial backlog. It also includes building 12 metric tons of high-assay, low-enriched uranium capacity annually for next-generation reactors.

3. Recent Contract Awards and Manufacturing Upgrades

In December 2025, Centrus began centrifuge manufacturing in anticipation of this expansion. The Department of Energy awarded a $900 million HALEU task order earlier this year, and the company is investing $560 million to upgrade its Oak Ridge centrifuge factory for high-rate production.

4. Strategic Impact and Outlook

The expanded enrichment capacity will restore U.S. uranium enrichment at scale, bolster energy and national security supply chains and create local jobs. Successful execution could drive significant revenue growth and strengthen Centrus’s position as the primary domestic supplier of nuclear fuel.
