Centrus to Supply HALEU Fuel for Five Oklo Reactors Starting 2029
LEU•On June 18, Centrus Energy agreed to supply high-assay low-enriched uranium (HALEU) fuel for up to five of Oklo’s Aurora microreactors at its 1.2 GW Clean Energy Campus in Pike County, with deliveries beginning in 2029. The pact includes an MOU with Kiewit Nuclear Solutions for engineering, procurement and construction planning.
1. Fuel Supply Agreement and Timeline
On June 18, Centrus Energy signed a Letter of Intent to provide domestically enriched HALEU fuel for up to five of Oklo’s planned Aurora microreactors at the 1.2 GW Clean Energy Campus in Pike County. Deliveries are slated to begin in 2029, marking one of the first long-term HALEU supply contracts for commercial microreactor deployment in the U.S.
2. Partnership with Kiewit for EPC Planning
Alongside the fuel agreement, Oklo and Centrus executed a memorandum of understanding with Kiewit Nuclear Solutions to support engineering, procurement and construction planning for the initial microreactor installations. This EPC collaboration aims to streamline project schedules and leverage Kiewit’s experience in nuclear infrastructure development.
3. Strategic Impact on Domestic Nuclear Supply Chain
Officials emphasized that the Centrus-Oklo collaboration signals the emergence of a fully domestic HALEU fuel supply chain, reducing reliance on foreign sources. The project leverages Southern Ohio’s skilled workforce and existing nuclear legacy, positioning Pike County as a potential advanced nuclear energy hub.
