Century Aluminum Starts Mt. Holly Expansion, Boosts U.S. Output 10% and Plans 750,000-Tonne Smelter

Century Aluminum has started hot metal production at its Mt. Holly smelter, boosting U.S. primary aluminum output by 10% and creating 125 jobs ahead of full capacity in June 2026. It partnered with Emirates Global Aluminum on a 750,000-tonne Oklahoma smelter that will double U.S. capacity and add 1,000 jobs.

1. Mt. Holly Expansion Underway

Century Aluminum has commenced hot metal production at its Mt. Holly, South Carolina smelter following a major expansion. This project adds 10% to the company’s U.S. primary aluminum output and has already created 125 jobs, with full capacity expected by June 2026.

2. Oklahoma Smelter Partnership

The company partnered with Emirates Global Aluminum to develop a new primary aluminum smelter in Oklahoma, adding 750,000 tonnes of annual capacity. This facility will double U.S. primary aluminum production and generate over 1,000 direct jobs along with 4,000 construction roles.

3. Strategic U.S. Production Growth

These expansions reinforce Century Aluminum’s position as the largest U.S. primary aluminum producer and align with Section 232 tariff incentives. Boosting domestic output aims to mitigate global supply disruptions and strengthen national supply chain resilience.
