1. TotalEnergies Targets 2029 Mozambique LNG Start-Up

TotalEnergies CEO Patrick Pouyanné confirmed the company remains on schedule to commence liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipments from its Mozambique onshore project in 2029. The development includes two 6.4 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) liquefaction trains fed by the Area 1 gas fields in the Rovuma basin. Over the next 12 months, TotalEnergies plans to ramp up on-site drilling, pipeline installation and construction of the central processing facility, with over 5,000 workers expected at peak activity. Final investment decision (FID) funding is fully secured, supported by long-term offtake agreements covering more than 70% of initial capacity with partners in Europe and Asia.

2. LNG Buyers Shift Focus to Supply Security

Speaking at India Energy Week, a senior TotalEnergies executive highlighted a marked shift in global LNG procurement strategies: buyers are prioritising contract certainty and destination flexibility over marginal price concessions. This trend has led to a 30% increase in bids for long-term contracts with destination-flex terms during the past quarter. European utilities, facing storage levels that are 20% below the five-year average, have accelerated negotiations for 15-year supply deals, while Asian importers have sought indexation formulas combining Henry Hub and JKM markers to mitigate volatility.

3. U.S. Gulf Coast Disruptions and Export Growth

Ship-tracking data from Vortexa showed U.S. Gulf Coast exports of both crude oil and LNG dropped to zero on January 25 due to widespread infrastructure shutdowns caused by a severe winter storm. Despite this weather-related interruption, U.S. LNG exports rose by 24% year-on-year in 2025 to an average of 14.6 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d). Meanwhile, roughly 9 Bcf/d of new liquefaction capacity entered the construction phase last year, driven by the increasing uptake of U.S. cargoes in Europe and Asia.

4. Cheniere Declares Quarterly Dividend and Expands Capacity

Cheniere Energy’s board approved a quarterly cash dividend of $0.555 per share, payable on February 27, 2026, to shareholders of record as of February 6. The company operates the Sabine Pass and Corpus Christi terminals with a combined nameplate capacity of approximately 52 mtpa, and has over 9 mtpa of additional capacity under construction. Cheniere continues to evaluate further expansion opportunities in the Gulf Coast region and remains focused on optimizing vessel chartering, regasification services and integrated logistics to support its full-service LNG model.
