Chevron says El Segundo refinery had mechanical issue causing intermittent flaring
CVX•Chevron said a mechanical issue at its 285,000-barrel-per-day El Segundo refinery caused intermittent use of safety flares, but did not affect supply to regional customers or pose a safety risk.
1. Refinery mechanical issue
Chevron said its El Segundo, California, refinery experienced a mechanical issue that resulted in intermittent use of the facility’s safety flares. The company said the issue did not pose a safety risk to the community or refinery employees and did not affect its ability to supply petroleum products to regional customers.
2. Monitoring findings
Chevron said no exceedances had been detected by the refinery’s fence line monitoring system. The refinery has capacity of 285,000 barrels per day.
