China, HK stocks track global tech rebound; gold miners rally
FXI•AI supply-chain shares and metals lead gains
Overnight gains on Wall Street provided some tailwinds for Chinese AI supply chain plays. The tech-heavy STAR50 Index .STAR50 rose 2.2% and the 5G Communication Index gained 1%, after global AI bellwether Nvidia NVDA.O snapped a seven-day losing streak to finish over 2% higher.
Optical networking peers Lumentum LITE.O and Coherent COHR.N surged more than 6% and 4%, respectively.
Non-ferrous metal shares .CSISNMIM also led gains onshore, up 3.3%, and materials stocks .HSCIM climbed 3.7% in Hong Kong, as gold prices XAU= hovered near a 3-month high.
Gold, Alibaba and healthcare shares move higher
Gold is poised for further gains driven by de-dollarisation, renewed ETF inflows, and solid central bank buying, analysts at UBS Wealth Management said. The Swiss bank noted bullion remains an attractive store of value amid dollar weakness and shifting U.S. rate expectations.
Hong Kong-listed tech giants .HSTECH bounced 1.6% from a 1-1/2-month low. E-commerce giant Alibaba 9988.HK rose as much as 3% after a regulatory filing showed its chairman had purchased company shares, while media reports said founder Jack Ma had also bought stock.
Bucking the broader market strength, the CSI Energy Index fell nearly 1% as Brent crude futures fell on the prospect of more supply coming through the Strait of Hormuz.
