China weighs allowing ByteDance, Alibaba to buy new Nvidia chips, reportedly
NVDA•China has signaled it could allow ByteDance and Alibaba to buy Nvidia RTX PRO 5500 chips, a report said. The government reportedly told some companies it intends to approve purchases.

China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology recently asked companies including ByteDance and Alibaba to report plans to purchase Nvidia RTX PRO 5500 chips, the report said. It added that some industry executives expect the chip to avoid U.S. export restrictions.

An Nvidia spokesperson said U.S. firms remain restricted by U.S. export controls and China's limits on U.S. imports. Reuters said it could not immediately verify the report.
