FXI•China's ninth International Import Expo opened in Shanghai with participants from 162 countries, regions and international organisations and 4,142 companies. 1. Expo opens in Shanghai
China's ninth International Import Expo opened in Shanghai on Thursday and runs through November 10. Organisers said last year's event produced tentative deals worth more than $80 billion.
2. Trade imbalance widens
Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang said the key issue was how to realise trade balance, describing the expo as a measure to expand imports and support an open world economy. China is on track to exceed last year's $1.2 trillion trade surplus; exports rose 6.7% in the first 10 months of the year, while imports increased 3.7%, reflecting weak domestic demand.
