Churchill Downs extends its 152nd Spring Meet to nine weeks from April 25 to June 28 over 44 race days, with Derby Week running April 25–May 2 and Sunday racing returning since 2010. Kentucky Oaks will air primetime on May 1 with a $1.5 million purse; the May 2 Derby carries a $5 million purse.

1. Spring Meet Extension

The 152nd Spring Meet at Churchill Downs will run from April 25 through June 28, featuring 44 race days over nine weeks. This marks an operational expansion designed to maximize attendance and wagering across an extended season.

2. Derby Week Enhancements

Kentucky Derby Week is scheduled April 25–May 2, reintroducing Sunday racing for the first time since 2010 with 'Sunday Funday' brunch experiences. The week also includes themed events such as Dawn at the Downs, 502’s Day, Winsday and Thurby to engage guests.

3. Primetime Kentucky Oaks and Derby Broadcasts

The Kentucky Oaks will broadcast live on May 1 between 8 and 9 p.m. ET with a $1.5 million purse, marking its first primetime airing. The Kentucky Derby takes place May 2 with a $5 million purse, broadcast on NBC and Peacock.

4. Operational Capacity and Venue Overview

Churchill Downs Racetrack spans 175 acres with a one-mile dirt track, seating for approximately 60,000 and barns for 1,400 horses. The facility supports year-round wagering through simulcasts and enhances fan experience via expanded hospitality offerings.
