On January 22, 2026, Clarivate Plc announced Clarivate Nexus, its first AI-powered academic assistant designed to integrate library content and services directly into popular AI tools. The platform will leverage Clarivate’s industry-leading indexes – including the Web of Science citation index, Primo and Summon Central Discovery Index, and ProQuest collections – to reconnect students and researchers with gold-standard scholarly resources. Clarivate intends to make Nexus available as a browser extension in Q3 2026, with a subsequent release integrating directly into campus learning management systems and library portals.

Clarivate Nexus offers five key features to enhance academic workflows: a unified ‘library front door’ for entitlement-aware access across institutional collections; full-text retrieval of scholarly references identified within AI outputs; source verification tools to validate citations; AI-driven recommendations of relevant literature based on user context; and library visibility modules that surface research guides, expert support and operational information. These capabilities address gaps in convenience-focused AI environments by ensuring students and researchers work with authoritative, institution-curated materials.

By embedding Nexus into the AI tools researchers already use, Clarivate aims to cement libraries at the center of academic scholarship. Early collaborators such as Northeastern University have praised the solution for promoting confidence in source credibility. Clarivate will partner with leading academic institutions through a community-led development model, allowing libraries to customize Nexus branding and prioritize services. The early access program starting in Q3 2026 will engage up to 50 university libraries, with broader commercial deployment planned for 2027.
