CMS Energy says new data-center load could lift sales growth above 2%-3% plan
CMS•CMS Energy said additional data-center load would drive sales growth above its current 2%-3% plan, with the load ramping slowly into the early 2030s. It also cited a recently signed 680-MW clean-energy power purchase agreement and 745 MW of new customer-load contracts.
1. Customer load and growth
CMS Energy said it has energized about 450 MW of new customer load and added about 745 MW of new customer-load contracts in its service territory. The company said data-center growth in Michigan would continue after elections and that additional data-center load would drive sales growth above its current 2%-3% plan, with the load ramping slowly into the early 2030s.
2. Investment and debt
CMS Energy said it expects to reinvest in its utility business during the fourth quarter, with some spending potentially pulled forward from 2027. About $625 million of parent-level debt matures in 2027. The company also said it remains confident in navigating Michigan's political and regulatory environment despite investor “noise.”
