CN, Amtrak sign eight-year operating agreement for services on CN-owned US rail lines
CNI•Eight-year operating agreement reached
CN reached an eight-year operating agreement with Amtrak to govern passenger service on CN-owned U.S. rail lines.
The deal ends a more than decade-long Surface Transportation Board dispute over service terms for key Amtrak routes on CN’s network.
The framework resets performance payments to align more closely with Federal Railroad Administration on-time performance standards.
The parties will also pursue equipping Amtrak trains with onboard shunt enhancers to improve grade-crossing detection, safety and operational flexibility. The installation is backed by Federal Railroad Administration funding, following more than a decade of joint research and testing.
