Coherent and Quside unveil mass-manufacturable VCSEL quantum entropy source

COHRCOHR

Coherent Corp and Quside demonstrated a mass manufacturable quantum entropy source by embedding runtime-verifiable randomness in a single 6” wafer VCSEL, enabling high-quality cryptographic key generation and quantum-safe encryption at scale. This marks the first mass-scale deployment of verifiable quantum-grade entropy for secure communications.

1. Coherent Unveils Broad Photonics Portfolio at SPIE Photonics West 2026

Coherent Corp. will present an extensive range of photonics and advanced materials innovations at SPIE Photonics West, running January 20–22, 2026, in San Francisco. The exhibit highlights continuous‐wave and ultrafast lasers, beam delivery modules, advanced thermal management solutions and specialty materials designed for AI datacenters, semiconductor capital equipment, life sciences and precision manufacturing. The company emphasizes its vertically integrated capabilities—spanning production‐scale diamond growth to precision coating—to address key bottlenecks in next‐generation technology markets and bolster its position as a global photonics leader since 1971.

2. Launch of Next-Generation Product Innovations

Coherent is introducing six major product lines engineered to improve performance and scalability. Its bondable diamond heat spreaders deliver up to a 99% reduction in thermal interface resistance on die sizes up to 100 mm². The Sapphire XT visible laser, with integrated controller, supports super-resolution imaging for semiconductor inspection and quantum sensing. OCT Specialty Fiber Assemblies optimize near-infrared spectroscopy and catheter-based imaging. The CO₂ electro-optic modulator targets high-throughput PCB via drilling without germanium. The FieldMax Touch meter offers 1 kHz pulse energy measurement in a rugged handheld. The Waveshaper 1000A Sharp achieves spectral filtering with a 5 GHz full-width half-maximum resolution.

3. Live Demonstrations and Expert Sessions to Drive Adoption

At its booth, Coherent will demonstrate a thermo-electric generation system that converts datacenter waste heat into usable power, and will collaborate with Quside on quantum-grade entropy generation using vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers. A deep-UV setup combining a 266 nm picosecond laser and advanced optics will showcase film cutting for display and semiconductor applications. Executive presentations include a panel on co-packaged optics for data infrastructure led by CMO Dr. Sanjai Parthasarathi and technical talks on high-efficiency fiber lasers and magneto-optic isolation crystals, ensuring attendees gain insight into real-world deployment and integration challenges.
