Coherent is ramping 6” InP production across three fabs in Sweden, the U.S. and Switzerland while showcasing a portfolio including a 400 mW laser, 200 G EML, 400 G photodiodes and 1.6 T modulators at OFC 2026. The stock slid nearly 4% premarket after Nvidia signaled ongoing use of copper connections alongside optical networking.
1. InP Technology Showcase at OFC 2026
At OFC 2026, Coherent unveiled a comprehensive InP-based portfolio that includes a 400 mW high-power laser for co-packaged optics and silicon photonics pluggables, 200 G EML modules for 1.6 T transceivers, differential EMLs enabling 400 G per lane at 3.2 T, high-speed 200 G/400 G photodiodes, nano-integrated tunable laser assemblies, and 800 G and 1.6 T IQ modulators for emerging pluggable and transport applications.
2. Global 6” InP Production Ramp
To support growing demand for AI-driven datacenter architectures, Coherent is significantly increasing 6” InP wafer production across its fabs in Järfälla (Sweden), Sherman (U.S.) and Zürich (Switzerland), aiming to ensure supply continuity and scalability for customers deploying next-generation optical engines.
3. Stock Slide on Nvidia Copper Preference
Coherent’s shares fell nearly 4% in premarket trading after Nvidia indicated it will continue using copper-based connectivity alongside new optical networking in upcoming AI platforms, signaling a more gradual transition to photonic solutions and tempering near-term demand expectations for optical component providers.
