Coherent Unveils 6.4T CPO and 12.8T Pluggables as Shares Dip

COHRCOHR

Coherent showcased multiple co-packaged optics technologies at OFC 2026, including a 6.4T (32×200G) silicon photonics CPO, multimode VCSEL modules and 400G-per-lane InP modulators, alongside pluggable optical platforms spanning 1.6T, 3.2T and a 12.8T XPO form factor. Despite these advances, shares fell on waning Nvidia-related optimism.

1. OFC 2026 CPO Demonstrations

Coherent demonstrated multiple co-packaged optics (CPO) technologies at OFC 2026, including a 6.4T (32×200G) socketed silicon photonics CPO with an external laser source powered by high-power InP CW lasers, a multimode VCSEL socketed module, and a 400G-per-lane InP modulator on silicon, highlighting scalability for future AI and high-performance computing bandwidth needs.

2. Next-Generation Pluggable Transceiver Portfolio

The company also presented a comprehensive portfolio of next-generation pluggable transceivers spanning 1.6T and 3.2T architectures, and previewed an emerging 12.8T XPO form factor, leveraging silicon photonics PICs, high-power InP CW lasers, 200G InP EMLs, GaAs VCSELs and multiple DSP interfaces to support power-efficient, AI-driven data center connectivity.

3. Market Reaction and Stock Movement

Despite the technology showcases, Coherent’s stock experienced a decline as investor enthusiasm tied to potential Nvidia collaborations cooled, underscoring market sensitivity to end-market partnerships even as the company expands its photonics technology stack.
