Coherent launches AxioView fiber assemblies and 300W germanium-free EOM for via drilling

COHRCOHR

Coherent launched AxioView™ imaging fiber assemblies at Photonics West for OCT, NIRS and multimodal catheter imaging with ISO 13485-certified production for cardiovascular and neurovascular platforms. It unveiled a germanium-free electro-optic modulator producing sub-µs pulses up to 300W with sub-200ns rise/fall times for via drilling, addressing germanium scarcity in semiconductor manufacturing.

1. Coherent Unveils AxioView™ Imaging Fiber Assemblies for Medical Catheters

Coherent has launched its AxioView™ imaging fiber assemblies, engineered for optical coherence tomography (OCT), near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) and multimodal catheter-based imaging systems. Debuting at Photonics West 2026, AxioView™ targets cardiovascular, neurovascular and gastrointestinal applications, offering high-resolution, minimally invasive imaging. The assemblies feature specialty fiber designs optimized for OCT and NIRS, catheter-ready geometries (ball tip, side-fire and chisel), and vertically integrated ISO 13485-certified manufacturing to ensure consistent performance from prototype through high-volume production. This product is designed to shorten medical OEM development timelines and strengthen regulatory readiness, leveraging Coherent’s global supply chain and specialty fiber expertise.

2. Launch of Germanium-Free Electro-Optic Modulator for High-Speed CO₂ Laser Via Drilling

Coherent introduced a new electro-optic modulator (EOM) for high-speed switching of CO₂ lasers in semiconductor via drilling, featuring a germanium-free architecture capable of sub-microsecond pulse generation at laser powers up to 300 W. The device delivers pulse durations under 1 µs with rise and fall times below 200 ns, outperforming traditional acousto-optic modulators by eliminating diffractive beam angles and reliance on scarce germanium. Coherent’s 300 W production model is available immediately, with a 1,000 W version in alpha testing. Version 2.0 of the EOM platform offers improved reliability and ease of integration with Coherent CO₂ lasers and F-Theta lenses, positioning Coherent to capture an underserved segment of semiconductor manufacturing equipment suppliers.
