Coinbase’s Base L2 Network Faces Second Outage, Users Urged to Restart Nodes
COIN•On June 25, Coinbase’s Base layer-2 network experienced a temporary disruption halting transaction processing until nodes were resynchronized. The outage, its second since last August, has prompted an ongoing investigation and advisories for users to restart nodes to restore synchronization.
1. Outage Disruption on Base Network
On June 25, the Base blockchain layer-2 network unexpectedly halted, stopping transaction processing across one of Ethereum’s largest scaling solutions. Internal node desynchronization was identified as the immediate issue, disrupting block production until engineers restored consensus.
2. Impact on Users and Transactions
The service interruption prevented users and dApps on Base from submitting or confirming transactions, raising concerns among validators and developers. Coinbase recommended that all node operators restart nodes to rejoin the network and resume normal operations.
3. Investigation and Next Steps
This marks Base’s second significant outage since last August, prompting a detailed review of consensus mechanisms and software stability. Coinbase is probing whether a software bug or protocol fault triggered the event, and plans to deploy patches and monitoring enhancements to prevent recurrence.
