Comcast Adds Xfinity Service to 2,300 Homes, Targets 16,000-Home MD Expansion
Comcast will connect more than 2,300 homes and businesses in Centreville, MD to multi-gigabit symmetrical Xfinity Internet as part of its Queen Anne’s County network expansion. This follows expansions linking 16,000 county homes and builds in Hagerstown (50,000 homes) and St. Mary’s County (30,000 homes).
1. Strong Margin Profile Supports Cash Generation
Comcast continues to deliver high operating margins, with EBITDA margins holding above 35% in the most recent quarter, underscoring its pricing power across broadband, theme parks and content distribution. This margin strength has translated into consistent free cash flow generation, averaging $15 billion annually over the past three years, providing a solid foundation for debt reduction and share repurchases without compromising investment in network upgrades.
2. Dividend Yield Elevated by Valuation Reset
Shares currently trade near decade-low valuation multiples, resulting in a dividend yield north of 4%. Comcast has increased its quarterly dividend for ten consecutive years, and the current payout ratio stands at approximately 50% of last twelve-month free cash flow, leaving ample room for further increases. The qualified dividend offers income investors an attractive alternative to other large-cap media peers, while the company’s investment-grade credit rating supports the sustainability of distributions.
3. Five-Year Revenue Growth Driven by Broadband and Experiences
Despite ongoing cord-cutting in cable TV, total revenue has risen by 19% over the past five years, fueled by 25% growth in broadband subscribers and double-digit increases in theme park attendance and film studio licensing. Broadband ARPU has climbed by 8% over the same period, while Universal theme park revenues have expanded at a 12% compound annual growth rate, now accounting for just under 10% of consolidated sales.
4. Network Expansion in Centreville Underscores CapEx Discipline
In Centreville, Maryland, Comcast is extending its converged WiFi network to more than 2,300 homes and businesses, part of a broader Queen Anne’s County deployment that will connect over 16,000 locations. This project, alongside ongoing builds in Hagerstown and St. Mary’s County covering over 80,000 addresses, reflects disciplined capital allocation: total expansion capex for the year is projected at $17 billion, in line with historical run-rate, and is expected to bolster long-term subscriber growth without materially pressuring free cash flow conversion.
