Comcast Delivers High-Speed Internet Upgrades to Over 40,000 Massachusetts Housing Units

CMCSACMCSA

Comcast, the Healey-Driscoll administration and Massachusetts Broadband Institute have upgraded broadband wiring in public and affordable housing properties across Massachusetts, including Cambridge, Boston and Springfield, under the first Residential Retrofit Program. Backed by $70 million in American Rescue Plan funding, these enhancements deliver high-speed symmetrical Internet to over 40,000 units.

1. Comcast Expands Retail Footprint with Chehalis Xfinity Store

Comcast has inaugurated its first Xfinity Store in Chehalis, Washington, located at Twin City Town Center West, 1433 NW Louisiana Ave. The 2,500-square-foot interactive outlet, which opened in January 2026, offers the full suite of Xfinity products—Internet, Mobile, X1 video platform, NOW prepaid services and Xfinity Home Solutions—alongside Comcast Business consultations. The store, staffed by ten certified sales consultants, operates six days a week (10 a.m.–7 p.m. Monday–Saturday, 11 a.m.–6 p.m. Sunday) and is projected to drive a 5 percent increase in cable and mobile enrollments within its first quarter. Management views this as part of a broader strategy to add 30 new retail locations across the Pacific Northwest by year-end.

2. NBCUniversal Doubles Down on Live Sports to Drive Revenue

NBCUniversal, Comcast’s media arm, is gearing up for a concentrated live-sports lineup in February 2026—televising the Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics, Super Bowl LX, NBA All-Star Game and a primetime Celtics-Lakers matchup—all on network television and Peacock. Having invested over $8 billion in rights during the past 18 months for the NBA, MLB and Olympic cycles, Comcast anticipates that the sports slate will boost ad sales by 12 percent year-over-year and add roughly 400,000 net new Peacock subscribers during the quarter. Executives highlight that live events, which average 15 million viewers per marquee telecast, remain a critical draw in countering cord-cutting trends.

3. Massachusetts Broadband Upgrades Drive Social Impact and Revenue

Under a partnership with the Massachusetts Broadband Institute, Comcast has completed infrastructure upgrades across more than 40,000 public and affordable housing units to deliver symmetrical gigabit-class Internet and enhanced WiFi. Funded through a $70 million Residential Retrofit Program under the American Rescue Plan, the initiative has reached developments in Cambridge, Boston, Haverhill, Lowell, Somerville and Springfield. Comcast reports that digital-eligibility enrollment among residents has climbed by 20 percent, while anticipated incremental broadband ARPU (average revenue per unit) for these properties is estimated at $25 per month. The company has also committed $110,000 in workforce grants and distributed 300 laptops to support local digital inclusion efforts.
