Companies struggle to convert AI productivity gains into financial returns, Oliver Wyman finds
MRSH•Oliver Wyman’s AI report finds that companies are struggling to turn productivity gains into measurable financial returns. Only 8% of workplace AI users report company-wide rules for allocating saved time, while CEOs reporting AI returns above 10% were 4.4 times as likely as laggards to deploy AI at scale in new revenue streams.
1. Productivity gains go uncaptured
Only 8% of workplace AI users report company-wide standards for allocating time saved through AI; 54% say employees decide how to use the time or that no explicit decision has been made. Clearly governed AI embedded in everyday software delivers productivity gains for 88% of users, compared with 52% where those conditions are largely absent.
2. Returns linked to broader deployment
CEOs reporting AI returns above 10% were 4.4 times as likely as laggards to deploy AI at scale in new revenue streams. The report recommends holding senior leaders accountable for converting AI-generated capacity into measurable financial returns.
