Comstock Resources to Supply Gas for 5.2 GW Texas Hub in $16 Billion Project
Comstock Resources will supply natural gas to a 5.2 GW power hub in Anderson County, Texas, jointly built with NextEra Energy under a U.S.–Japan trade deal committing $550 billion. The $16 billion facility could consume up to 1 Bcf per day by 2031, leveraging Comstock’s Western Haynesville operations.
1. Project Selection and Partnership
Comstock Resources selected its Western Haynesville site in Anderson County, Texas for the 5.2 GW Texas Power Generation Hub, developed jointly with NextEra Energy under a U.S.–Japan trade agreement committing $550 billion in investment. NextEra will build and operate the facility with joint U.S. and Japanese ownership pending definitive agreements.
2. Capacity, Costs and Gas Supply
The facility’s 5.2 GW capacity will serve up to 5 GW of large-load demand and is estimated to cost $16 billion. Comstock will supply almost 1 Bcf of natural gas per day by 2031 from its Western Haynesville operations.
3. Strategic and Market Implications
Located in the ERCOT market, the hub leverages Comstock’s gas supply and transmission infrastructure at Bethel to deliver dispatchable power to data centers and advanced manufacturing, potentially boosting gas sales and diversifying revenue streams while avoiding upward pressure on consumer electricity bills.
