Constellation agrees to buy Shell’s Rhode Island State Energy Center for $715 million

The Johnston, Rhode Island, combined-cycle natural gas plant has 609 MW of capacity, expanding Constellation’s ISO New England merchant portfolio.
The asset sells power and capacity into the ISO New England wholesale market, adding flexible, dispatchable generation for regional grid reliability.
The deal is expected to be immediately accretive to operating earnings, with closing subject to regulatory approvals and other customary conditions.
