Convera warns global competition for capital will widen currency swings in 2027
SPY•Convera’s annual outlook warns that competition between AI investment and government borrowing could widen currency swings in 2027. It forecasts global growth of around 3%, inflation easing from 4.5% to 3.7%, and ranges of 1.30-1.40 for GBP/USD and 150-170 for USD/JPY.
1. Capital competition and currencies
Convera said AI investment topped $1 trillion in 2026, intensifying competition for global savings with government borrowing. The outlook warns this could raise long-term funding costs and shift currency flows, widening currency swings in 2027.
2. Growth and currency ranges
Convera forecasts global growth of around 3% in 2027 and consumer price inflation easing from 4.5% to 3.7%. It expects GBP/USD to trade within 1.30-1.40 and gives USD/JPY a central range of 150-170, with Japanese monetary tightening identified as the key swing factor.
3. Business risk planning
Convera recommends scenario-based rolling forecasts and layered hedging to protect business margins and cash flow as currency risks become harder to predict.
