Corn futures plunge after USDA raises US yield outlook
CORN•Corn futures fell as much as the 30-cent daily limit after the USDA raised its 2026 U.S. corn yield outlook to 181.2 bushels per acre from 178.5 and its harvest forecast to 16.034 billion bushels from 15.800 billion.
1. Corn falls sharply
U.S. corn futures plunged Friday after the USDA increased its 2026 U.S. harvest outlook. The agency forecast production of 16.034 billion bushels and an average yield of 181.2 bushels per acre, raising its end-of-season stocks outlook by 282 million bushels from a month earlier.
2. Other grains diverge
December corn futures ended down 20-1/2 cents at $4.79-3/4 per bushel, a two-month low, and fell 3.8% for the week. December wheat dropped 12-1/4 cents to $6.71 and logged its sixth straight weekly decline, while November soybeans rose 4-1/2 cents to $12.92 after reaching a six-week low.
