Costco Launches Mobile App Bakery and Deli Ordering After $67.3B Revenue Beat
Costco will allow members to place custom bakery and deli orders through its mobile app, replacing in-store paper forms. CEO Ron Vachris said this digital rollout follows a $67.31B revenue beat and aligns with upcoming pay-ahead pharmacy features to integrate virtual and in-store engagement.
1. Mobile App Ordering Launch
Members will soon be able to place custom orders for cakes and deli trays directly through the Costco mobile app. This initiative replaces the existing paper-based system that required in-store form submissions at bakery and deli counters.
2. Transition from Paper Forms
The legacy paper order process dates back to the original Price Club locations of the 1970s and persisted after the 1993 merger with Costco. Under this system, members had to complete physical order forms at each warehouse to request custom bakery items or deli platters.
3. Strategic Digital Integration
CEO Ron Vachris emphasized that the online ordering rollout follows a $67.31 billion revenue beat and complements planned pay-ahead pharmacy features. These digital enhancements aim to boost member engagement and strengthen the link between virtual services and brick-and-mortar visits.
