Covestro signed an MoU with Fertiglobe and MB Energy to explore an ammonia import-to-distribution supply chain for Germany and wider Europe.
The plan centers on MB Energy’s proposed ammonia import terminal at Blumensand in Hamburg, with Fertiglobe evaluating potential equity participation.
Covestro to assess ammonia offtake and regulatory fit
Covestro will assess ammonia offtake via the terminal for chemical feedstock use or to meet hydrogen supply requirements.
The parties will review commercial, technical and logistics needs, including terminal capacity, volumes, delivery terms and onward transport.
The scope includes conventional, lower-carbon and renewable ammonia, with attention to EU regulatory and certification frameworks such as CBAM.
