CSN says chemical reaction at Presidente Vargas steelworks leaves production unaffected
SID•CSN said a chemical reaction at its Presidente Vargas steelworks on October 28 released visible smoke but did not affect production; no casualties, injuries or environmental damage were reported.
1. Incident at steelworks
The reaction occurred around 1:30 p.m. during pig iron unloading at the Volta Redonda, Rio de Janeiro, steelworks, when hot material contacted excess ground moisture. The plant continued operating normally.
