CVS Caremark Expands GLP-1 Coverage with Zepbound and Foundayo Dates
CVS•CVS Caremark will reintroduce Zepbound (tirzepatide) as a preferred option on October 1, 2026, and remove the block on Foundayo (orforglipron) coverage effective June 1, 2026. These updates aim to expand GLP-1 access for plan sponsors and drive continued double-digit savings on weight management medications.
1. Coverage Updates
CVS Caremark will add Zepbound (tirzepatide) back to its commercial formularies as a preferred option beginning October 1, 2026, and will lift the new-to-market block on the oral GLP-1 therapy Foundayo (orforglipron) effective June 1, 2026. Plan sponsors retain the ability to customize these template formulary changes to fit their populations’ needs.
2. Savings and Affordability
These formulary adjustments build on a year of double-digit savings delivered to template customers by negotiating lower net costs with manufacturers. CVS Caremark expects the expanded GLP-1 options to further reduce plan sponsor expenses while maintaining high levels of access for eligible members.
3. Implementation and Support
To ensure a smooth transition, CVS Caremark will engage in proactive communication with plan sponsors, providers and members, offering educational materials and clinical support programs. Advanced outreach and resources will help stakeholders adapt to the new coverage timelines and optimize patient access.
