Danaher to launch AI-powered autonomous research lab in 2027
DHR•Danaher plans to launch its first AI-powered autonomous research lab early in 2027 to accelerate drug discovery and development. The lab is expected to discover molecules eight times faster and generate target-binding molecules at ten times the annual rate.
1. Lab combines AI and robotics
The lab will combine AI, robotics and technologies from several Danaher operating companies in a connected workflow to develop custom antibodies and other molecular tools. It is projected to operate at scale in early 2027.
2. Design and testing workflow
AI will help design molecules that bind to biological targets, including antibodies; the lab will then build and test each molecule and feed the results back into the model to improve subsequent designs. Danaher Chief Science Officer JC Gutierrez-Ramos said the work frees scientists to focus on complex scientific challenges where human insight matters most.
3. Part of broader program
Danaher said the lab is an example of a broader company program to create a fleet of smart instruments.
