On July 7, DeepSeek revealed it is designing a bespoke AI accelerator chip to supplant Nvidia GPUs in its generative AI platform. The initiative targets tighter control over hardware performance, with plans to integrate the chip into training and inference pipelines once prototyping completes.
2. Cost and Performance Objectives
DeepSeek aims to reduce its external GPU spending by curbing Nvidia license fees and cloud compute costs, while achieving lower power draw and reduced inference latency. Internal benchmarks are expected later this year, with full deployment slated for 2027.
