Diesel deal opens way for more Russia-US cooperation, Kremlin envoy says
USO•Kremlin envoy Kirill Dmitriev said a Russia-US deal to supply Russian diesel could pave the way for further economic cooperation. He said Moscow would overcome sanctions-related difficulties to ensure delivery.
1. Deal could lead to more cooperation
Dmitriev said the diesel deal could serve as a model for further agreements and that Russia intended to continue economic engagement with the United States. He cited other potential opportunities in economic and investment cooperation, including energy and minerals.
2. Deal draws criticism
U.S. President Donald Trump said he and Russian President Vladimir Putin had agreed that Russia would release diesel supplies to the United States and global markets. The deal required Trump to lift some U.S. sanctions he had imposed against Russia and drew criticism from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and European officials. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni called it a “very risky choice.”
