dLocal published The Next Wave of Global Consumers, finding 71% of surveyed shoppers are unlikely to buy without local payment options.
Nearly 99% rated local currency or alternative payment methods as important for cross-border purchases in emerging markets.
Buy Now, Pay Later ranked as a key online barrier at 39%, ahead of other alternative payment gaps at 37%.
The survey covered 1,358 consumers across Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Thailand, the Philippines, Kenya and Nigeria, and was fielded in July 2026.
Argentina and Mexico showed the lowest willingness to buy without local payment support at 6% and 5%, respectively, highlighting localization as a conversion lever.
