dLocal study finds local payment methods boost merchant transaction volume up to 55%
DLO•dLocal's October 19 report found that adding local payment methods increased merchant transaction volume, including a 55% rise for a Brazilian merchant after adding Pix. It also reported lower processing costs for merchants in Colombia and Peru, and higher average order values in Mexico.
1. Transaction volume gains
dLocal's report, The Local Code, found that adding local payment methods generated new merchant transactions rather than displacing existing options. A Brazilian merchant's transaction volume rose 55% within five months of adding Pix. In Peru, Yape became a merchant's leading payment method within three months, lifting total transaction volume more than 25% over six months.
2. Costs and order values
A Colombian merchant's processing costs fell 19% after adding Nequi, while a Peruvian merchant's costs declined 30% as Yape became dominant. A Mexican merchant that added buy now, pay later provider Kueski recorded average order values 6.1% higher than debit card purchases.
