Duke Energy data center cost-shifting settlement awaits North Carolina regulator approval
DUK•Duke Energy reached a settlement to shield North Carolina customers from data center costs, with terms covering large-load customers signing electric service agreements after June 1, 2026, if regulators approve.
1. Settlement terms
The settlement would require nonrefundable upfront payments for customer-only interconnections, deposits for broader grid upgrades and a High Load Factor rate. The North Carolina Utilities Commission is expected to rule by mid-November.
