Duke Energy Florida launches Trenton microgrid upgrade to back up 1,500 customers
DUK•Trenton battery site upgraded for outage backup
Duke Energy Florida launched its second large-scale battery facility in Trenton, Florida, upgrading it to provide outage backup power.
The 11-megawatt lithium battery site can supply about 1,500 customers for up to four hours using microgrid “islanding” operations.
Original energy storage role and new outage focus
The facility entered service in 2022 for energy storage, demand balancing, and deferring grid upgrades; it now targets long-duration outage reduction.
