Easing yields help drive US stocks to fresh records
SPY•US stocks finished higher on Tuesday as the 10-year Treasury yield eased to around 5.29%. The S&P 500 rose about 0.6% to its 28th record close of 2026, and the Nasdaq Composite also set a record.
1. Indexes reach records
The S&P 500 led major US indexes, gaining about 0.6%, while the Nasdaq Composite also closed at a record. The 10-year Treasury yield fell to around 5.29%, after touching 5.3493% on Monday, its highest level in more than two decades.
2. Sector moves diverge
Utilities led S&P 500 sectors, rising 3%, while healthcare was the only sector to finish lower. Biotech shares fell 2.3%, and the iShares Micro-Cap ETF dropped 1%, leaving it nearly 8% below its August 14 record close. Crude futures rebounded from a session low near 3% down to finish slightly higher, but remained below $90 a barrel.
