Apollo's easyJet buyout faces union pushback ahead of first quarter 2027 close
APO•Unions across Europe, including the European Works Council, oppose Apollo's £5.7 billion ($7.54 billion) takeover of easyJet. The airline said the deal remains on track to close before the end of the first quarter of 2027.
1. Unions raise concerns
easyJet said multiple unions across Europe raised concerns about the ownership structure after the takeover, with the European Works Council opposing the deal. The council cited commitments to employees that would be non-binding and last only 12 months.
2. Approval process ahead
easyJet and Apollo are working to convince aviation regulators that the ownership structure would keep the airline majority owned and controlled by European interests. The airline plans to hold court and shareholder meetings in the week starting November 9 to approve the deal, formally beginning a court-sanctioned process that could take easyJet off the London stock market after more than 25 years.
