eBay Unveils Climate Transition Plan Targeting Net-Zero by 2045

1. eBay unveils first climate transition plan
On Wednesday, January 14, 2026, eBay published its inaugural climate transition plan, setting a corporate goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045. The plan covers all Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions from its global offices and data centers, as well as Scope 3 emissions linked to its supply chain, which represent roughly 85% of the company’s total carbon footprint. eBay has committed to a 50% reduction in absolute emissions by 2030 against a 2020 baseline and will engage its top 100 suppliers—accounting for 60% of procurement spend—to adopt Science Based Targets within the next two years. To decarbonize operations, the company will invest $100 million over the next decade in energy-efficient server upgrades and on-site solar installations, aiming to source 80% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2035. Progress will be tracked through an annual sustainability report audited by an independent third party, providing investors with transparent, data-driven updates on key metrics such as megawatt-hours of renewable energy procured, percentage of electrified vehicle fleet, and year-over-year emissions intensity.
