Eli Lilly’s Foundayo Yields Up to 14.4% Weight Loss, 4.9-Inch Waist Reduction
LLY•In ATTAIN-1, perimenopausal women taking Eli Lilly’s Foundayo lost up to 30.4 lbs (14.4%) and postmenopausal participants lost up to 28.2 lbs (14.1%) on the 17.2 mg dose over 72 weeks. In ATTAIN-2, diabetic participants saw up to 27.8 lbs (13.6%) weight loss and 4.3-inch waist reduction.
1. Post-Hoc Analysis Shows Broad Menopausal Efficacy
Post-hoc data from ATTAIN-1 and ATTAIN-2 reveal Foundayo’s highest 17.2 mg dose delivered significant weight loss across menopausal stages. In ATTAIN-1, pre-, peri- and postmenopausal women lost 12.8% (28.0 lbs), 14.4% (30.4 lbs) and 14.1% (28.2 lbs) respectively, with up to 51.5% achieving ≥15% reduction. In ATTAIN-2, participants with type 2 diabetes saw up to 13.6% (27.8 lbs) weight loss and a 4.3-inch waist decrease.
2. Trial Design and Participant Details
ATTAIN-1 randomized 3,127 non-diabetic adults with obesity or overweight plus comorbidities to three Foundayo doses or placebo for 72 weeks alongside exercise and a balanced diet. ATTAIN-2 enrolled adults with type 2 diabetes under the same dosing schema. Both trials measured body weight, waist circumference and percentage of participants achieving ≥5%, ≥10%, ≥15% and ≥20% weight loss.
3. Implications for Obesity Treatment Landscape
Foundayo’s oral, non-peptide GLP-1 profile without food or water restrictions distinguishes it from injectable therapies, potentially enhancing patient adherence. Demonstrating robust efficacy during menopause, a period of accelerated fat gain and cardiometabolic risk, may expand Foundayo’s market penetration and challenge existing GLP-1 treatments in the chronic weight management segment.
