Eli Lilly’s Retatrutide Yields 28.3% Weight Loss and 2.0% A1C Drop
LLY•Retatrutide, Eli Lilly’s triple agonist, delivered 28.3% average weight loss (70.3 pounds) and enabled 65.3% of TRIUMPH-1 participants to reach BMI below 30, while reducing knee pain by 73.1% and sleep apnea severity by 60.6%. In TRANSCEND-T2D-1 it achieved 16.8% weight loss and 2.0% A1C reduction.
1. TRIUMPH-1 Weight Loss and Obesity Comorbidity Results
In the 80-week TRIUMPH-1 trial, participants receiving a 12 mg dose of retatrutide lost an average of 70.3 pounds (28.3% body weight), with 65.3% of subjects falling below a BMI of 30. Nested studies showed a 73.1% reduction in knee osteoarthritis pain and a 60.6% decrease in moderate-to-severe sleep apnea severity.
2. TRANSCEND-T2D-1 Glycemic and Cardiovascular Benefits
In the 40-week TRANSCEND-T2D-1 trial for adults with type 2 diabetes, retatrutide produced a 16.8% weight loss and up to a 2.0% reduction in A1C. The therapy also lowered triglycerides by 41.0% and systolic blood pressure by 12.3 mmHg, indicating cardiovascular risk improvements.
3. Safety Profile and Development Outlook
Retatrutide’s safety profile included gastrointestinal side effects, primarily nausea and diarrhea, resulting in an 11.3% discontinuation rate at the highest dose. These pivotal Phase 3 results support regulatory filings and position retatrutide as a potential next-generation successor to dual-agonist obesity treatments.
