Embraer, Mahindra choose Nagpur for potential C-390 assembly line in India
ERJ•Embraer and Mahindra identified Nagpur for a potential C-390 Millennium final assembly line in India, contingent on the aircraft being selected for the Indian Air Force’s Medium Transport Aircraft programme. Embraer said India is expected to order 60 to 80 aircraft.
1. Potential assembly site
Embraer and Mahindra are working with the government of Maharashtra on infrastructure for a proposed C-390 final assembly line in Nagpur. The project depends on the aircraft being selected for the Indian Air Force’s Medium Transport Aircraft programme.
2. Proposed facility plans
The facility would cover aircraft assembly, system integration, manufacturing engineering and local supply chain development. Embraer said the partnership intends to progressively integrate Indian aerospace companies into the C-390 ecosystem, subject to the programme award.
3. India partnership
Embraer partnered with Mahindra in 2025 to pursue development and production of the C-390 in India. Embraer sees India as a strategic market as it seeks to boost global sales; the country is expected to order 60 to 80 aircraft. The C-390 competes with Lockheed Martin’s C-130 Hercules.
