Emerging Markets assets gain as Fed hike expectations ease

Asian equity indexes were broadly higher, with heavyweights South Korea .KS11 and Taiwan .TWII rising 1.6% and 1.5%, respectively.
The U.S. dollar index =USD was steady, ahead of August payrolls data later on Friday. The softer dollar helped the MSCI's emerging-market currency index .MIEM00000CUS advance 0.3% to record levels.
In China, the benchmark Shanghai Composite index .SSEC and the blue-chip CSI300 index .CSI300 lost 0.3% and 0.1% respectively.
Chinese banks have been buying U.S. Treasuries in recent months after lifting dollar deposit rates, according to people familiar with the matter. The moves could help slow gains in the yuan and come amid a spike in U.S. yields.
The yuan firmed CNY=CFXS, hovering around its highest level in over three years.
