EnBW hoists two 74-ton sludge dryers into Walheim sewage sludge CHP plant build-out
XLU•Walheim sewage sludge CHP plant build-out advances
EnBW advanced its Walheim sewage sludge combined heat and power plant with installation of two 74-ton disc dryers.
The facility targets processing 180,000 tons of dewatered sewage sludge per year, shifting the site from former coal generation.
The plant is designed to supply up to 4 MW of district heat, roughly enough for 300 households in Walheim and nearby areas.
The project positions the site for Germany’s 2029 requirement to recover phosphorus from sewage sludge, supporting dedicated mono-incineration capacity.
