Encompass Health and Cookeville Regional Medical Center will build a freestanding 40-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Cookeville, Tennessee, expanding an existing 20-bed unit and boosting capacity when it opens in 2027. The facility will offer private rooms, therapy equipment and an in-house dialysis suite for complex recoveries.

1. Joint Development of 40-Bed Facility

Encompass Health and Cookeville Regional Medical Center will collaborate to construct a freestanding, 40-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital on the Cookeville Regional campus, converting their existing 20-bed unit into part of the new facility.

2. Comprehensive Rehabilitation Services

The hospital will feature all-private rooms, 24-hour nursing, physical, occupational and speech therapies, a state-of-the-art therapy gym, an activities of daily living suite, an in-house dialysis suite, dining facilities and an outdoor therapy courtyard.

3. Construction Timeline and Capacity Expansion

Construction is slated to begin soon with operations expected in 2027; upon completion, this will become Encompass Health’s 12th Tennessee location and integrate into its national network of 174 hospitals.

4. Regional Demographic and Network Strategy

The project targets the Upper Cumberland Region’s aging population, aiming to reduce patient travel to Knoxville or Nashville and strengthen Encompass Health’s market presence in a premier retirement area.
