Energy companies fall on hopes for fresh negotiation

U.S.-listed shares of energy companies fell premarket, tracking a decline in oil prices.
Majors, producers and refiners retreat
- Oil majors Exxon Mobil XOM.N and Chevron CVX.N declined 1.2% and about 1%, respectively.
- Oil and gas producers Occidental Petroleum OXY.N fell 1.5% and ConocoPhillips COP.N dropped 1.3%.
- Refiners Phillips 66 PSX.N slipped 2% and Marathon Petroleum MPC.N lost 1.6%.
Oil prices decline after Iran comments
- Brent crude futures LCOc1 fell 1.16% to $87.08/barrel; U.S. West Texas Intermediate futures CLc1 were down 1.71% at $81.08/barrel.
- Prices fell after Iran's foreign ministry said negotiations with the United States could be pursued, based on national interests.
