Equinor doubles Afrodite gas discovery estimate after appraisal well
EQNR•An appraisal well raised estimated recoverable gas and condensate at the North Sea’s Afrodite discovery to 77 million to 180 million barrels of oil equivalent, more than twice previous estimates.
1. Higher resource estimate
Equinor said an appraisal well put recoverable gas and condensate volumes at the Afrodite discovery at 77 million to 180 million barrels of oil equivalent, more than twice previous estimates. The discovery is considered commercially viable, and a potential subsea development tied back to the Kvitebjørn platform is under evaluation.
2. Development options
Gas could reach the European market through existing infrastructure via the Kollsnes processing plant in Øygarden. Low reservoir permeability limits recovery, and total reservoir volumes are about three times the estimated recoverable resources.
