Equinor Partners Confirm 21–107 mboe Carmen Gas-Condensate Discovery
EQNR•Equinor and partners confirmed a gas-condensate discovery at the Carmen prospect, with recoverable resources estimated at 21–107 million barrels of oil equivalent in licence 1148, 25km north-west of the Troll field. The 35/10-16 S appraisal well encountered multiple Middle and Early Jurassic reservoir zones and will be evaluated for tie-back options to nearby infrastructure.
1. Discovery at Carmen Prospect
The 35/10-16 S appraisal well in production licence 1148, operated by Wellesley Petroleum alongside Equinor, DNO and Aker BP, confirmed gas-condensate in the Carmen prospect 25 km north-west of the Troll field and 35 km east of Kvitebjørn.
2. Recoverable Resource Estimates
Preliminary estimates place recoverable volumes between 3.4 to 17 million standard cubic metres of oil equivalent, equivalent to 21–107 million barrels of oil equivalent (mboe).
3. Reservoir Zone Findings
Multiple hydrocarbon-bearing zones were encountered: a 14.6 m column in the Ness Formation, a 41.3 m column in the Etive Formation and a 5 m column in the Oseberg Formation, all with no gas/water contacts.
4. Next Steps and Infrastructure Options
Equinor and partners are assessing tie-back opportunities to nearby platforms and pipelines and evaluating further wildcat drilling, with the Deepsea Yantai rig slated to drill the Afrodite appraisal well next.
